I sculpted this version of Lincoln without his beard because he visited Kentucky in 1858, but did not start growing a beard until November of 1860

Over 70 professional sculptors and sculptor teams nationwide submitted qualifications for this important public commission.  The field was then narrowed to 20 semi-finalists and then down to 5 finalists.  I was honored to be chosen to sculpt the 10 ft high full-figure Lincoln portrait.

The elegant site-plan designed by Brad Bourgoyne tells the fascinating story of Lincoln's search for his parent's marriage bond.

The in-progress photo to the left was taken of the polished bronze Lincoln head before it was welded onto the body.

Lincoln's head was being held on while I snapped a quick photograph.  The patina was applied in the next few days after completion of all the welding and fine museum quality finishing.

Using a crane and still wrapped in fabric, the Lincoln bronze sculpture was installed upon its 6 ft high solid granite base on April 9th, 2009.

The full-figure bronze was unveiled and dedicated on April 22nd, 2009.

Kentucky Representative Mike Harmon and National Lincoln protrayer, Jim Getty, Senator Dan Kelly and I celebrating  just after the unveiling.

It was a wonderful ceremony--complete with the Washington County Marching Band, the Saxton Cornet Band, male vocalist Mr. Issac Frye, three well known Lincoln protrayers, and the speakers included Senator Dan Kelly, Representative Mike Harmon, the Mayor of Springfield, Washington County Judge Executive, Co-Chair of the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the Director of the Kentucky Historical Society and I was also asked to be a keynote speaker.

Senator Dan Kelly presented me with a memento of the event.  They had a beautiful fine art acrylic piece custom created that I will cherish always.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and Main street was roped off as 700 to 800 people attended the wonderful event.
