All celebrated sculptors have their own distinctive style -- each sculptural piece providing a unique view into the artist's soul. As you approach one of Paula Slater's Asian inspired Limited Edition bronzes you are immediately filled with the sense of East gracefully blending with West. These sculptures exude affirmations of inner peace, connectedness, and the joy of being in the moment. With her newest Royal Faerie Limited Edition bronze series, Slater combines a masterful command of the human form with whimsical drama, a fluid sense of motion and wonderful expression. Slater is a prolific sculptor with enormous talent and she is reaching a wide and influential audience with her exciting and original sculptural works. Paula Slater is a full-time professional sculptor and has been awarded many important commissioned monuments and prestigious bronze portraits installed throughout the United States and Canada. Believing in the old-world ideal of 'nothing rushed or left undone', she gives the time needed to bring each exquisite detail to life. This generous giving of time is rare in the art world today, setting her sumptuous sculptures apart and elevating the demand for her fine art ever higher. Slater's bronze sculptures have been featured in numerous national magazines including, Sculpture Journal, Art & Antiques Magazine, California Home & Design, Gentry, Garden Design Magazine, Luxury Pools and Spas, Art Business News, and Art World News. In 1997 Paula was commissioned to sculpt highly detailed models for the "Lost in Space" movie which premiered in April of 1998. And in 1999 she received a major commission for the Atlantis Luxury Hotel and Casino in the Bahamas. Her monumental and exquisitely detailed sea life relief sculptures were cast as massive 20 foot tall, 1 foot thick bronze doors (for photo click bronzedoor) for the entrance to The Atlantis. In 2000 Slater sculpted two life size full-figure bronzes with a theme based on the name of the mansion being built, 'Life is a Journey'. The sculptures of a grandfather watching as a little bird takes flight from his grandson's fingertips was so lifelike that many of the guests at the grand opening celebration commented that they kept thinking the bronze figures were real people. Among other prestigious portrait sculptures she has completed, Slater has had the honor of sculpting a one and a half times life size bust of the late Senator Alan Cranston. Once molded and cast in bronze, the Alan Cranston Bust will be prominently displayed in the State Capitol of California, Sacramento. Renown for her talent as a portrait sculptor, Slater was chosen to sculpt the life size full-figure portrait bronze of George Bergeron, past Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Windsor, Canada. Mr. Bergeron developed MS when he was 34 years of age. He was an inspiration to many and a great proponent of staying mobile and active. Slater sculpted the portrait of George seated on his motorized scooter. The finished bronze was installed June 19th, 2004 in the George Bergeron Healing Garden created in Windsor, Canada. In 2004 and 2005, Slater was commissioned to sculpt a large corporate logo for Orange Coast Title Company (for photos click Bronze Orange). She also received a commission to sculpt two life size full figure portrait bronzes of a mother and her adorable little two year old child which was installed in a private garden in North Carolina. Ms. Slater recently completed a life size portrait bust of Congressman Bill Thomas which was installed in 2006 in the new William B. Thomas Airport Terminal in Bakersfield, California. Additional sculptural commissions awarded to Paula include the life size full-figure portrait sculpture of philanthropist and WWII Air Force Pilot Captain, Link Piazzo. The highly detailed and historically accurate bronze portrait was installed in 2006 at the Humane Society Museum in Reno, Nevada. She also recently sculpted the life size portrait bust of Albert Hale Atwood, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of the Southern California Contractors Association. In 2006 Paula completed an over life size full figure Risen Christ with an overall height of 6'5". The finished bronze entitled "Come Unto Me" was installed on September 22, 2006 at the entrance of the beautiful Memorial Prayer Gardens of the First Baptist Church of Orlando, a 12,000 member church in Florida. Paula Slater was presented to the congregation and honored in two televised church services for the creation of this magnificent and inspired bronze sculpture. Ms. Slater recently completed a life size full-figure sculpture of a miner for the Port Huron Mining Memorial to honor the 22 men who perished in a tragic Michigan mine explosion. The sculpture was cast in bronze and on August 30th, 2007 it was installed on an inscribed four foot high granite base in a park created for the memorial in Port Huron, Michigan (click these links thetimesherald , timesherald.com, FT. Paula sculpted a life size portrait bust of Elmer Hemphill for the Hemphill Corporation. The bronze bust celebrated the anniversary of Mr. Hemphill's fifty years in business and was installed at the Hemphill Corporate Headquarters in September of 2007. Ms. Slater sculpted a life size portrait bust of distinguished Congressman Ruben Hinojosa. The bronze bust was installed at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. Ms. Slater recently completed a commission to sculpt "The Man and Woman of the Century" for the City of Huntington Park, California. The two life size bronze portrait busts of Marilyn Boyette and Los Angeles County Supervisor Frank G. Bonnelli were installed at the entrance foyer of Huntington Park City Hall. Paula received a commission to sculpt a portrait bust of "Steady" Ed Headrick, founder of the Frisbee and inventor and founder of Disc Golf. On May 29th, 2009 the bronze bust was unveiled by Farina Headrick to thunderous applause at the Headrick Memorial Museum in Georgia. Paula also just completed sculpting a life size portrait bust of Dr. James M. Slater (no relation) who pioneered the groundbreaking use of Proton Therapy for the treatment of brain, lung and prostate cancers. The bronze bust of Dr. Slater will be installed at the Loma Linda University Medical Center. Ms. Slater was also awarded a commission to sculpt a one and half times life size full-figure portrait of President Abraham Lincoln by the Lincoln Bicentennial Committee. The ten foot high bronze will be installed upon an over six foot high solid granite base in a lovely site-plan designed by Brad Bourgoyne. It will be installed in front of the new Washington County Judicial Center in Springfield, Kentucky. The unveiling and dedication will take place on Aprill 22nd, 2009. Her inspiring design, "The Ascent of Heroism", is an impressive bronze sculptural design which includes seven figures from seven different American fought wars swept up in a swirl of feathers and wings. (Five of the figures are portraits of veterans at Grandview.) This complex bronze sculpture was installed upon a five foot high solid granite base in the center of a Veterans Circle. The dedication ceremony was Memorial Day, May 25th, 2009. Ms. Slater recently sculpted a life size portrait bust of Neda "Angel of Iran" which was cast in bronze. Paula then sculpted a second portrait bust showing Neda's lovely hair free and uncovered without the hejab/scarf. This second bust, Neda "Angel of Iran" will be unveiled and donated by Slater at the "Celebrating Iranian Women Conference" in Washington, D.C. Paula has also sculpted a life size portrait bust of 19 year old freedom fighter Sohrab Aarabi "Freedom Warrior" to represent all the young men who have protested and died for freedom in Iran since the fraudulent election in June, 2009. The sensitive life size full-figure bronze portraits of Steven Stayner leading little Timothy White by the hand to safety will be installed in June of 2010 upon a solid four foot high base at the entrance to beautiful Applegate Park in Merced, California. Paula has received the distinguished commission to sculpt a life size full-figure portrait of Giulio Cesare Graziani. Graziani was an Italian Air Force pilot who cooperated with the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He became a highly decorated war hero who rose through the ranks to become a Brigadier General and was later promoted to General of the Italian Air Force. A book was written about this heroic ace pilot who flew over 100 value missions. Once the full-figure portrait is cast in bronze it will be installed in the Italian Air Force Museum in Rome. Ms. Slater has been commissioned to sculpt the life size full-figure bronze portrait of Del Hilliard to be installed in the Del Hilliard Garden at Christus Health Hospital in Houston, Texas. A second bronze portrait of this much beloved son and brother will be cast for the Hilliard family. Paula has received a commission to sculpt a life size bronze portrait bust of the much beloved Reverend Arthur Ginart, also known as "Father Red". Neither Ginart nor his parish, St. Nicholas of Myra survived Hurricane Katrina. Father Red, age 64, was protective of his church and refused to leave it during the storm. Paula has the great honor of being selected for the commission of the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument. This national monument was passed by the U.S. House and Senate and was signed into law by President George W. Bush and then President Barrack Obama signed legislation into law authorizing JBMF, Inc. to build and maintain the Monument. Slater will create in highly detailed bronze a 1.5 times life size full-figure United States Military Dog Handler in full combat uniform, a 1.5 times life size German Shepherd, a Doberman, a Labrador Retriever and a Belgian Malinois. The dedication of this National Monument is planned for Veterans Day, 2011 or Memorial Day, 2012. Mr. Kiang was a generous philanthropist, founder of Metropolitan bank, and served as President of the Oakland Port Commission. She was also named as one of the top five finalists for the Young Lincoln Memorial in Hodgenville, Kentucky (for more information please click YoungLincolnProject.htm) Paula was also selected to sculpt three life size full-figure bronzes (which she named "The Healing Spirit") for St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Fund raising for this project is still on-going. Paula Slater majored in fine art at California State University Fullerton, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She earned a Master of Arts Degree from John F. Kennedy University. Ms. Slater is a member of the National Sculpture Society, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, and The Portrait Society of America.
